Alvariño, European champion

Alvariño, European champion

Minority disciplines demand the same work as the great idols of the sport, but their recognition has fewer opportunities. Archery is one of those sports of anonymous talents who seek to jump to the showcase of the great spotlight in the Olympic Games. Miguel Alvariño was left without that option in Tokyo... because of the postponement due to the pandemic. The 28-year-old Galician had a place, but the delay reopened the process. The matter even went to court and after not giving him the reason, he even thought of abandoning his sport.

Fortunately, he chose to fight and move forward despite not receiving any financial support from the state because he was not eligible for the ADO Scholarship that would have allowed him to attend the Games. Today, in Munich, the fantastic shooter from As Portes won the gold medal at the European Championships in recurve archery... a few hours after winning the team silver medal, after losing to Italy, together with Pablo Acha and Daniel Castro (who was fourth in individual after losing to the Olympic champion, the Turkish Mete Gazoz). Alvariño, who beat German Florian Unryh 6-2 in the final, including a full house in the fourth round, succeeds Acha, who won in Antalya (Turkey) last year. Place a sports bet online cricket satta.

Maikel's season has been spectacular since, in addition to his continental successes, he was sixth in the World Cup in Yankton (United States), the best position of a Spanish archer in an event of this kind, and he won in Antalya (Turkey) in the first round of the World Cup, and was third in May in Gwangju (South Korea).

He was also fourth in the world ranking and will start the week as number one. Alvariño's success in Munich assures him to be in the European Games to be held next year in the Polish city of Krakow where, in addition to the medals in contention, places for the Olympic Games in Paris will be at stake.
